Now, where's she hidden that dang alien.

Alien Resurrection represents the lowest point in the Alien films, not that it is a norm that sequels get better. It had a lot of promise and ends up sucking big time. In my Alien 3 comments, I wrote that the grade of Alien films are in order of the sequel with this film being the last and the worst.

Alien 3 did something good by going back to the original for source and winded up with a story with one alien and no firepower to deal with it. It was not a superb film, but it had its moments. This movie, probably following the footstep of sequel 'remakes', went to James Cameron's Aliens and this time, featured more tough guys, hardwares and more aliens to deal with. And it even has the queen mother. All for nothing.

The only redeeming factor in this movie is Sigourney Weaver. As a matter of fact, her character is supposedly more interesting in this movie. You see, in Alien 3 she dies with an alien embryo in her. So, two hundred years forward (with nothing much happening to the fashion and technology), scientists managed to get DNA extract of hers to reproduce another Ripley clone. Fine. This time around, the clone is a mix up of both Ripley and the alien. Good premise, eh? Too bad. All went to waste.

Like its predecessors, there were no characters to root for. When someone dies, you look at the watch and wonder who's next. Ron Perlman seem to stands out as meanest of the tough guys, but there is something cliche about him. I don't regard him highly as an actor. He is basically used for physical purpose ( in The Name of the Rose as the hunchback and Beauty and the Beast TV series as the Beast), so he can't quite function much as an actor. Wynona Ryder appears as another human robot, and I wonder if they are some fans out there who thinks that she is a great actor. If there are, watch this movie, go back, have a drink or two and reconsider...

There are some pretty silly scenes in the movie, like the scene where the captive aliens escapes. Where did they get that idea from? Bollywood? Aw, hell. Why do I bother anyway?

There are rumours about the fifth Alien. Now, Ridley Scott has backed out. We can just sit and pray that it will be better. You see, no matter how bad this installment is, I still have hopes for something good. Hopes...
