'It's showtime'. How often we have been irritated when the main character of countless of action movies, cocks his gun and utters those dreadful words. This is exactly what this film liked to satirize on.

Satire is too expensive a word to relate to this fun movie. In fact, this movie merely pokes fun at the cliches of many cop movies and TV series. When I sat down to watch this film, I told myself to enjoy it, not to analyse it. And enjoy I did.

First of all, kudos to the cast. De Niro didn't do an inch of acting. He is the straight man, and most of the time, looked appropriately embarassed. That alone invites chuckles. Eddie Murphy is Eddie Murphy. I can't think of anyone else to fit into this role. Renne Russo is as dependable as usual. And get a load of this. William Shatner appears as himself, to give the cops an insight on his days playing TV cop (TJ Hooker). In one scene, he turns to Russo and remarks (about De Niro's serious cop) "That's the worst actor I had ever seen." That was absolutely sweet of Shatner. Surely his detractors will apologize him after seeing this film.

The only trouble is when the story drives into the very elements it wanted to make fun off. There are the typical villain (flavour of the season - East European), car chases, and throwaway line. But does it matter? Hell, no. What we want is good time, and it delivers.
